OUR MISSION

Vidahlia Press and Publishing House is an emerging nonprofit literary organization based in Houston, dedicated to fostering imaginative and inclusive storytelling through creative publishing initiatives.

 

At Vidahlia, we are committed to giving a voice to artists from all walks of life and to nurturing talent from unexpected places worldwide. An open-minded publisher with a soul, Vidahlia is interested in taking individual stories and ideas and presenting them in beautiful and creative ways to a global audience via a wide variety of media.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for new writers to share their voices and engage with the broader literary community.

PROGRAMS

Contests

INK, the Prison Writing Contest

A nationwide initiative inviting incarcerated writers to submit original work for recognition and publication.

The Texas Teacher's Writing Contest

Encouraging youth literacy and creativity through an annual story competition for teachers across Texas.

The Cowan Bi-Annual Journal 

A curated publication showcasing fiction, essays, poetry, and art from emerging voices across the South.

The Vidahlia Press Newsletter

2027 Houston Book Festival

A regular communication platform highlighting literary events, partner organizations, and Vidahlia updates.

A city wide book festival to support local authors and visiting guests. Coming soon to Houston in 2027.

Strategic Partnerships & Community Engagement

Vidahlia Press will officially announce its mission and partnerships within Houston’s nonprofit and creative communities. This coalition of 32 literary and arts organizations is dedicated to shared promotion and collaboration.

At the Library

Our partners include leading organizations such as the Houston Ballet, Ensemble Theatre, IMPRINT, Renaissance Publishing Company, Texas Life, Louisiana Life, and the Houston Museum of Art.

Colorful Bookshelves

Vidahlia joins a vibrant community with a mission of uplifting new voices, particularly speculative and underrepresented authors, and bringing them into the city’s literary conversation.
